A Wisconsin state Assembly representative who plays daily fantasy sports — best known lately through the brands DraftKings and FanDuel — will circulate a draft bill for the state to enact regulations on the fast-growing industry.

State Rep. Tyler Vorpagel (R-Plymouth) describes his bill as providing consumer protections and addressing a new technology that has become popular with sports fans and the target of regulators in some other states.

Vorpagel said in an interview with the Milwaukee Business Journal that initiating the draft legislation was his idea after he read articles on other states starting to challenge or regulate the daily fantasy sports industry. Vorpagel said his draft bill will provide clarity to the industry on doing business in Wisconsin as well as protection for consumers.

“We’re making sure there are appropriate consumer protections in it,” Vorpagel said.
